Mexico Is Calling!

Here are some snippets from or current newsletter (you can download the whole thing from link on right side of page).

Spring is upon us!
Summer is soon going to be in full swing but before that happens; let us share what has been happening here in the Baja. Chicks have been hatching, puppies born, groups from Idaho and Oregon have come to share in the mission. Along with this we had the pleasure of a high school intern, teachers have received training, local children  have been provided with lunches (along with a Christian message) churches have been strengthened,  and families have received new homes

Sonrise Church Men’s Group- Hillsboro Oregon
The Sonrise men's group has been coming for years doing different types of projects.  It has been a few years since they have come, which made it even more exciting to see them back.  There were 3 that had been here before, and 6 that came for the first time.  They were a little nervous about finishing the house in the four days they had here, but they set a new record for finishing a house in 2 days.

They built for Javier and Karla, their three sons, and a daughter that is born the first part of May.  The family was soooo thrilled to see their house going up and start planning how they were going to arrange their things.  The boys wanted a three-tiered bunk bed in their room.  The family showed their appreciation with a carne asada feast and fish tacos.  mmmm...good! Thank you guys and great job!

Curson/Idaho Group:
This was the second Spring break trip for this group.  This group had 38 people ranging from 3 years old to ???.  Of the 38, only 6 or 7 had been here before and some of them numerous times.  There were several family units, and a few singles.  But the really interesting part was that the group had representatives from 10 different churches.

The group built a house for Ernesto and Brenda.  They were expecting their first baby (she was born 2 days after the dedication).  The house came together quickly, and left them with time to put in a garden and do a few other extras.  The group also installed some playground equipment over at our church (El Redentor) to be used by the kids that come to the lunch program.
One of the big blessings for a group like this is to experience a different culture, giving their time and efforts to help someone else, and doing it as a family.  Thanks Idaho team!

Thank you Mary Carol!:
Mary Carol came with the Idaho group and then stayed on for some weeks afterward as an intern. She spent time working with the Santiagos in their daily work at the church and around the ministry site. It was a joy to watch her walk along side our missionary family in the real world experience of serving the community.
It is always a pleasure when a family in the states allows us the privilege of hosting their son or daughter for a time on the mission field. If you would like more information on how your son or daughter (or yourself) can come and join us in the mission field don’t hesitate to contact us.

Teacher Training
As part of ongoing efforts to provide practical training/experiences/help for the community, this spring we hosted a training seminar for Christian teachers. This was for workers in the churches in the area. It was great to have people from the surrounding churches coming together to get practical training and meeting as one body.

Other Activities
Sunset Covenant is due back the first week of July for a house building and they will bring a videographer with them to make a promotional video for NWO that we can make available for groups to use at their churches as well as having a spruced up online presence.

The lunch program, providing lunches for school age children, continues to touch lives (as well as bellies) with weekly lunches and Christian education/entertainment from David. This is a great step in continuing the success of reaching the next generation for Christ. It brings people into contact with a living/loving church in a way that is not intimidating.

Sammy and Suzy turned 15 recently and celebrated with a full on Quinceanera party. Many friends and relatives from both Mexico and the States attended. Hard to believe how fast they've grown!

Do you have a desire to come to Mexico and join in the action? Do you want to know more? Give us a call or drop us a line and we will help get the ball rolling. Whether you are a large church, a small family or an individual, we have many things you can do.

Come to Mexico! You'll be glad you did!
